Frost Free Upright Freezer vs Frost Free Chest Freezer
If you are thinking about adding a freezer for your families needs there are a couple of things that you need to consider. One of the major things to consider is whether you want a frost free upright freezer or a frost free chest freezer. There are several differences between the two models.
As far as prices go a frost free chest freezer is typically less expensive than an upright freezer. A chest freezer also has more usable space than an upright freezer. Every inch in a chest freezer is considered to be usable space. The chest freezer also typically takes less energy to run because of the insulated walls in a chest freezer.
As far as convenience goes a frost free upright freezer has the chest freezer beat! With an upright freezer you have easy access to everything in it. A chest freezer can involve a lot of bending over searching, moving items around before you can find what you are looking for. An upright freezer gives you the best opportunity to stay organized. They typically come with many adjustable shelves, storage bins, and drawers to keep track of everything you have in them. A standard chest freezer usually only has 1 wire rack in it to organize. A chest freezer however is more convenient than an upright if you have a large oddly shaped item to store in it.
So which is the best? This depends on your personal needs and your budget. I personally think that a frost free upright freezer is worth the extra cost up front! It is so nice to be able to stay organized and see everything you have. With a chest freezer sometimes you forget what is in there and you don't use it before it is expired.
